What is an Adult Day Care?

Adult day care is a planned programme of activities designed to promote well-being through social and health related services. Adult day care centres operate during daytime hours, Monday through Friday in a safe, supportive, cheerful environment.

For the participant adult day care benefits can be extensive:

  • A safe, environment in which they spend the day
  • Improvement in mental and physical health
  • Enhanced or maintained level of independence
  • Socialisation and peer support
  • Nutritious meals and snacks

Day-care provides older adults an opportunity to get out of the house and receive both mental and social stimulation. It gives care givers a much need break in which to attend to personal needs, or simply rest and relax. Day-care also provides an opportunity to access medical professionals.

Transport

Castleisland Day Care Centre provides a Wheelchair Accessible Bus daily to collect clients from their homes and bring them to the Day Centre.

Each day the bus operates in a different geographical area covering a different route.

There is a passenger assistant, provided by Castleisland Day Care Centre, on the bus to assist clients.

Our Bus was part-funded by CLÁR The Department of Rural and Community Development in 2021
